This qualitative project, titled “Gender Affirming Integration of HIV and Cancer Healthcare among Transgender and Nonbinary (Trans) People of Color in Washington,” is intended to explore social determinants of healthcare inequities among trans populations of color to guide HIV, gender-affirming care, and cancer prevention intervention efforts. We would like to understand how to best integrate these efforts to meet the needs of trans adults, and to address personal, social, environmental, structural, and economic factors that impact the use of these services to improve delivery. We are looking to recruit 30 transfeminine, transmasculine, and nonbinary individuals of color who have experience with navigating cancer screening, prevention, and/or treatment services. While this flyer being distributed is patient-facing, we are also looking to conduct interviews with 10 providers and other healthcare-related stakeholders who engage with trans patients in cancer screening and treatment.

We acknowledge that Inland Oasis is located on the ancestral homelands of the Nimiipuu (Nez Perce) and Schitsu’umsh (Coeur d’Alene) tribes. We acknowledge that the region in which we live is named after the Palus (Palouse) tribe, who refused to cede their land and were wiped out by the US Government. We acknowledge the tribal history here, and work to respect their ancestors, as well as the diverse and vibrant Native communities who make their home here today.
