We worked with Diamond Fields, a local carpenter, and Madalyn Asker, graduate from the University of Idaho College of Art and Architecture, to design the structures for the garden.
The Moscow Lions and the Palouse Habitat for Humanity were instrumental in finishing the project, Affinity Farm donated most of the seedlings to get us going, and some folks from the Meter Group in Pullman volunteered to help get the soil in!
This year, we were able to grow our own tomatoes, squash, peppers, carrots, and herbs - all went straight to the West Side Food Pantry shelves. We're already looking forward to the next growing season, so if you are interested in helping out, let us know!

History of our garden
In the spring of 2023, the West Side Food Pantry received a shipment of onions, one of which had sprouted. Our ever-enterprising Executive Director, Janna Jones, put it in some soil in a bucket, and the idea of a container garden grew from there. Using repurposed buckets, sinks, and an old desk, we were able to grow tomatoes, peas, garlic, and herbs that went straight to the shelves of the West Side Food Pantry, and into the bellies of our neighbors. With the rising average cost of living, there is an obvious and immediate need for food banks and pantries. The West Side Food Pantry serves over 500 individuals per week and distributes between 12,000 and 13,000 pounds of food per month, and by growing produce on site, we can help our neighbors thrive by providing them with fresh, nutritious produce they might not otherwise have access to. |

We acknowledge that Inland Oasis is located on the ancestral homelands of the Nimiipuu (Nez Perce) and Schitsu’umsh (Coeur d’Alene) tribes. We acknowledge that the region in which we live is named after the Palus (Palouse) tribe, who refused to cede their land and were wiped out by the US Government. We acknowledge the tribal history here, and work to respect their ancestors, as well as the diverse and vibrant Native communities who make their home here today.
